OUR AIMS & OBJECTIVESRescue and Rehabilitation Provide shelter for wild animals rescued from captive or unhealthy situations in Ecuador, victims of animal trafficking, mistreatment or loss of habitat, with the appropriate conditions to enable their survival and rehabilitation. We plan to develop areas for the preservation and regeneration of identified endangered plant species.
Research and Release Work towards the development of release programmes for these rescued animals, following national and international reintroduction guidelines, which includes forming technical teams of experienced individuals to carry out the studies which are necessary prior to the release of any animal or group of animals back into the wild. We also plan to develop similar programmes for endangered plants.
Conservation and Community Develop conservation projects, in cooperation with the local communities, with strategies and initiatives orientated to reduce the destruction of the natural environment of Ecuador, which gives life to a huge diversity of animal and plant species.
Education and Awareness Focus on educational and awareness programmes and campaigns for the local community in order to increase environmental awareness regarding the importance of preserving their natural resources.
Collaboration and Cooperation Promote collaboration and cooperation between local organisations and institutions with the same aims and objectives, in order to develop more efficient conservation projects in the future, favouring the biodiversity of Ecuador.
CURRENT SITUATION-information updated August 2011- The team members of the Fundación Fauna de la Amazonía are currently working non-stop on the development of a new Animal and Plant Rescue Centre on the Fundación's 38 hectare plot of forest land very near to the Llanganates National Park, in the Pastaza Province. Current activities include: - Investigating the land and the surroundings, to further plan the projects structures (accomodation, quarantine, laboratory, clinic and areas for the animals, etc). - Producing local inventories of animal and plant species that are native to the area. - Assisting other projects in the area which have the same aims and objectives as ourselves. - Continuing to report cases of animal mistreatment and trafficking to the Environmental Police and the Environmental Ministry, that we continue to hear of, and see. - Organising awareness campaigns (designing and distributing pamphlets, posters, etc) to inform the public about environmental damage caused by animal trafficking, the laws protecting Ecuadorian wildlife and how the local community can contribute towards groups and institutions working in favour of the environment. For more information on opportunities to assist us as a volunteer during this period please check the Volunteer section. We need your helping hands to continue saving the wild animals and plants of Ecuador! We are currently trying to identify and apply to as many potential funding organisations as possible. If you are aware of any possible funders, benefactors, potential volunteers or other opportunities for assisting us, please contact us as soon as possible. If you are in a position to help us financially to any extent, we would be immensely grateful. You will find our Paypal link in the section How To Help, which enables you to donate if you wish to.
